weight loss

Startlingly, U.S. consumers spend over $46 billion annually on various weight loss schemes and yet over 80% regain 110% of the weight lost through those efforts within a year.  The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force says, "There is fair to good evidence that high intensity counseling…produces modest, sustained weight loss in adults who are obese."   There is consensus in the medical community that even a modest weight loss of 5% can offer significant long-term wellness benefits.

The first patients enrolling in programs at SMI's customer locations are enjoying success. The chart below illustrates the percentage improvements in the indicated wellness indicators for patients.

While the first column reveals dramatic improvements in the various biomarkers, the second column of data illustrates longer-term progress. Here we see how the body's metabolic machinery are significantly changing for the better, suggesting that, with the wellness improvements made through the regimen, patients can anticipate ongoing health improvements as they continue with the regimen.

Does it work?  Here is a patient case study from a SMI customer clinic:

RJ is a 55-year old male that was carrying 70 extra pounds. He presented with rising insulin resistance, making him pre-diabetic. On medication to control his cholesterol and hypertension, he was grossly de-conditioned.  After futile attempts with several diet plans, most recently the Atkins Diet where he lost 30 pounds then regained 33 within a few months, he is frustrated and seriously concerned for his health. His physician had explained to him to lose weight or face the distinct possibility of a heart attack or similar life-threatening malady. Under these conditions, RJ agreed to commit to a yearlong Smart Metabolism™ program and paid the fee up front.

His intake data showed that he was only burning 47% fat calories at rest, and that as soon as he started to exercise, he started burning sugar calories almost immediately. After six weeks on the program, he was burning close to 100% fat calories at rest, and his exercise max-fat heart rate had increased by over 10 beats per minute, making his range of functional exercise heart rate greater by almost 10%. In addition, he had lost 12 pounds, exactly on track with the program’s prediction of 2# per week.

By week 12, he had lost 24#, still on target, his max fat heart rate had increased by another 10 beats per minute, and his peak heart rate had increased by over 20 beats per minute. He had lost over 20 combined inches of girth, and most importantly, he recorded feeling substantially better. RJ is even more dedicated to continuing with the program based on these results and his physician is delighted with the progress. RJ intends to finish out the year and continue with retesting indefinitely to ensure continued success over the duration of his life.
